Printed Corporate Gifts

I worked in a manufacturing plant a few years ago. It was a big name corporation, and I loved the job very much. My supervisor knew that production had been down for quite some time, and decided to give our team an added incentive to make our numbers for the week. For everyone on the team that hit production, he would give us a wooden nickel. These were little discs of wood with the company name printed across them. In the front foyer of the main office, there was a huge display case filled with merchandise such as hats, t-shirts, coffee cups and water bottles. There were also tote bags and fleece throw blankets. All of these corporate gifts were printed with the company name and logo. We found out that we could actually spend our hard earned wooden nickels on these items in the display case. Talk about playful competition! Our teams began working furiously hard to obtain those wooden nickels. It got to the point where some team members would trade lunch hours and break times in order to run our equipment continuously. We worked very hard and were all able to be rewarded with wooden nickels, and so off we marched to the mighty display case to place our orders. I managed to obtain a teddy bear for my daughter, a set of matching coffee mugs for my husband, and a water bottle for myself. We were all very proud of our purchases, because we knew we had worked very hard to get them, and had met our production goal, which was helping the company to reach its goals. Everyone bragged about their items they had purchased, and what they wanted to purchase next time.

The corporation I worked for was not paying big amounts of money for the corporate gifts in that display case, so they weren't really losing anything. But they gained so much by letting their employees feel like they had earned a wonderful bonus. It gave the employees a sense of pride in their company, and they were showing off the company name all over town and some even out of state. The company got free advertisement, and the employees found a fun way to boost production and get some cool corporate gifts as well.
